My only point is this: the study's results were interpreted as "no shoulder check = driver made a 'blind' right turn wrecklessly". And I am merely pointing out a context in which that driver can inform herself so that she can make that right turn safely sometimes without a shoulder check needed.

Yep, it's pathetic. A BRT would've been cheaper and faster. Too easy for politicians to spend someone else's money on luxury items.

Yelling in CAPS isn't an argument. A driver knows if there's anyone to her right even before she reaches the intersection as she's looking ahead while driving, thus making a shoulder check redundant / unnecessary. Pedestrians and cyclists are not magically teleported into the intersection.

How many of these "failures" to do a shoulder check were actually non-issues since the driver was able to determine on approach before reaching the intersection that there were no pedestrians or cyclists coming? This study is conspicuously silent on this nuance.

Anyone can get a petition approved as long as they pay the application fee and submit the required paperwork. Alberta Elections automatically approves then, whether the petition has any merit or not. They can only refuse the application if it's incomplete.
