What a fabulous weekend at the Film Noir Fest run by @filmnoiruk.bsky.social! I managed to watch 13 Noir and Crime films on the big screen! Highlights for me were seeing The Asphalt Jungle, Rififi and Gun Crazy on the big screen. And the best new film to me was Plunder Road.

Had a great time at Secret Cinema Grease: The Immersive Movie Musical today! The cast were all superb and it was all so brilliantly put together - almost no queues at all for food/drink and a great atmosphere and celebration of the film. If you’re on the fence about going then definitely go for it!

The Wizard of Oz (1933)
⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Has any other film ever been as perfectly cast as this?

Judy Garland, Ray Bolger, Jack Haley, Bert Lahr & Frank Morgan are all so damned charming!

And along with Margaret Hamilton & Billie Burke, their portrayals couldn’t be more iconic.

I really, really enjoyed A Real Pain today. A very funny film with lots to say about life and trauma, and how we handle it. I found it very moving. Great performances and beautifully directed.

I would have thought an iPhone was fairly safe…?

Apple being a hardware company rather than a data company means they have no interest in keeping/selling your data and it seems you can also turn it all off in settings.

I may be wrong though.

I agree with all of this! It also has one of the greatest openings of all time, starting out in the vastness of space and then slowly moving in on war-torn Earth, and then down into the middle of a final conversation between the pilot of a burning out bomber and a radio operator. Beautiful!

Thanks to all those who voted in the next two match-ups of the #CoenShowdown.

Raising Arizona beat Inside Llewyn Davis to go through.
And No Country for Old Men went through at the expense of The Hudsucker Proxy.

Gonna pause this for a while so as not to fill your timeline with it!

If you’re on iPhone, go to Notifications on the first page of Settings, click on Bluesky, and then turn off sounds (or move notifications to a scheduled summary). If you’re not on iPhone, I’ve no idea how to help!
