Only just discovered this book the other day entirely by accident in a bookshop and after skimming through it, I have to say that in a book covering over 400 films I am exceptionally proud of just how many of them I've seen.

The latest in my "books I've read this year" thread and I have to say I just absolutely LOVED this one. Essential reading for anyone who loves the types of films that I love.

Just getting in a bit of pre-gig Performative Reading (tm). I don't use Instagram so please let me know if I happen to pop up on the Hot Dudes Reading account, cheers.

I'm a big fan of the 1980s "youngsters band together to save their hangout from rivals/evil property developers by using their special interest" genre. Having already seen it involving breakdancing, rapping and rollerskating, I think it's now time to see what aerobics has to offer. Tonight's film:

It's the Turksploitation/spaghetti western crossover I never knew I needed.

Appropriately since the big Netflix movie everyone's talking about involves a guy putting stuff together that doesn't belong and creating a monster... I just made nachos with haggis, chorizo, sundried tomato and chipotle sauce

Took delivery of an extremely important parcel earlier.

Bumper load of Irish-shot stuff on Talking Pictures catch-up service at the moment. Dementia 13 (Coppola/Corman shot around Dublin & Wicklow), The Siege of Sidney Street (Dublin pretending to be London), early border farce Blarney (around Dundalk) and Freedom to Die (Dublin).

Albums released today: it's a great day for fans of beautiful, intense, instrumental weirdness. Magnificent stuff.

Tonight's #Noirvember choice. Playing it safe with the picture tonight lest the idiotic Bluesky moderation bot thinks I'm posting "graphic content" again.
November 6, 2025 at 11:46 PM
Paid another visit to Scotland's oldest purpose built cinema tonight and only realised as I was leaving that a poster outside is advertising I Swear - in the very cinema where part of it was filmed. META!

Okay forgive me for posting this image without the alt text, but it's the exact same image from my previous post and I'm assuming it was my description that triggered the idiotic moderation.

It's #Noirvember time again.

Now watching what I assume will be an insightful, serious and scathing critique of partition and the legacy of colonialism.

The October horror has now finished which means it's time for #Noirvember once again. Kicking things off with a British noir in which Arthur Kennedy is the token yank, which I guess kind of makes this the Let Sleeping Corpses Lie of film noir.

#31DaysOfHorror film #31 (or possibly #32). The grand finale to October's spooky viewing, it's time to bring out another Halloween tradition.
October 31, 2025 at 11:22 PM
Ah, Scottish chippy, please never change

#31DaysOfHorror film #30 (or #31 if you count both watches of Phantom of the Opera). An annual Halloween viewing tradition.

Back for a second helping.

Only just discovered that a theory about why Ptolemy's iconic map of Britain & Ireland has Scotland bent over at a 90-degree angle towards the east is that it wasn't believed that life could survive that far north, which is pretty much the best summary of Scottish weather that I've ever heard.

Another horror related night at the cinema. If you forced me to guess I'd go with Shelby Oaks.
