But many people don't want to face reality, because it would mean things have to change, they have to change their behavior and for many older also realize their responsibility in the past. So it is easier to pretend it is not reality and to tell yourself a different story.

Just imagine all the useful things that could have been done with the money spent there already. What a waste.

The way you do it is the best way. After a while they will notice and come closer. And over time they will start to trust you. Just make sure that you give them space and let them come to you. Befriending crows is such a joy. Oh, and the crow babies are extra joyful. Watching them is such fun.
