The way you do it is the best way. After a while they will notice and come closer. And over time they will start to trust you. Just make sure that you give them space and let them come to you. Befriending crows is such a joy. Oh, and the crow babies are extra joyful. Watching them is such fun.

My baby crows are in the state in which they already pick up stuff themselves, one even caught a bug and seemed to be surprised by it, the youngster didn't really know what to do with it.

I totally agree with everything in this thread. Befriending crows is such a joy, the way they recognize you, the trust they show, the baby crows. Also, you will notice that they all have different personalities, some are bold, others shy, some are cautious, others curious. Here is one of "mine".
