In my experience, the ire is always towards generative AI (the likes of ChatGPT) instead of what I suppose you could call functional AI (spell check, for example).
I'd actually say Grammarly is where things get grey for me because it is about halfway between the two.

Read aloud functions are not generative. That's the difference. A function that lets you hear what you have written so you can edit where necessary is entirely removed from someone just sloughing out trite bollocks from the likes of ChatGPT.
