I'm pretty sure I have only scratched the proverbial surface when it comes to how far you can go in TS with Mega+ being an actual difficulty so I'll save it for another time

I give it "just one more loop man I promise one more loop" out of the final act sidequest experience

As it currently stands, Time Stranger is undoubtedly the current top for the series. I had issues while playing it like a few softlocks and glitches but I want to believe that was mostly my hardware. It's got a lot to give and if I ever get a new machine I'm def doing a NG+

Olympos XII absolutely deserved it's highlight even if the Knights stole the opening show for the finale. The second I heard that theme I heard countless times over NG+ CS I knew they were up to some shit

Susanomon not appearing in the finale despite having a quest was CRIMINAL

7 posts in and I haven't talked about the story.

It's great. Had my initial apprehensions about the pacing and how some characters were handled but the last act absolutely made up for the otherwise wonky setup. It's probably the most Digital World-centric Story game so far

Personalities are a whole other beast in and of itself, mainly because they are the gateway to passives, some of which can literally break the game especially if you main mons that cast magic. It is by far my favorite addition to the game system wise.

Bond is are a genuine step up from the last game. Bond didn't serve much of a use beyond a Jogress statline in CS, now it serves as another factor in computing inherited stats for evolutions, the higher the Bond the higher the inheritance
October 21, 2025 at 5:51 AM
this is mostly noticeable in early game where you're trying to reach statlines for evolutions you're actively gunning for, lategame offers other ways like passives to improve Talent growth so there is some leeway to be had when talking about the comparison between the two

you could be doing a few levels only to go up by 3, load and be up by 2, do the finishing move and be up by 1

yes you could load a bunch to one mon and gain a lot but that's a net minus unless you're doing the Dinobeemon exploit and you'd rather avoid that

ABI in CS was the stat to end all stats. It governed your max level, free stat allocations and was vastly attainable from devolution and evolution

Talent, TS's version, only handles your max level and is only attainable in evolving, the rate of which is not communicated properly

Mon raising is the fundamental core of Digimon and while TS's systems are polished straight from CS, I feel like it was more approachable in previous games than in TS. This is primarily attributed to how ABI/Talent is approached in both games.

The game's systems felt like a natural progression from the one we had in CS but the time I needed to grasp the fundamentals between TS and CS were admittedly different. In CS, the game hardly has a tutorial for the things you're gonna spend the most time on, raising.

Unsurprisingly, for how much the game was capable of frustrating me, it's one of those cases where the aspects that I enjoyed the most outweigh almost any sort of cons I felt it had. Being real, Time Stranger has a definitive learning curve that was not as prevalent in CS.

It's a show that confidently hides its own cards from the audience until the very last second where the payoff is almost much more than you expect and that's kinda rare for shows nowadays

I give it 80 Pythagorean theorems out of every Monica face
October 5, 2025 at 10:05 AM
It's a bit slow at times, especially during the setups for an arc but the entertainment value of Monica doing silly faces is genuinely more enough recompense when the climaxes are genuine spectacles in and of themselves. The little day to day dramas have their appeal too.

All in all, it's a game that tests your patience and how much Ritalin you take in less than an hour. Really scratches the soulslike itch I've had for the longest while. I'm not touching the boss rush though, I'm not a masochist.

I give it 70 divine baby mass graves out of

Like you can have a genuine vendetta against a bug that's been in your way for the last few hours or a ledge that was out of your reach until you got double jump or wall climb.

Either that or Path of Pain.

I can still hear those buzzsaws.

I will say that most of the good from this game comes from the really solid story even if it is in the same vein of Dark Souls that I graciously describe as bathroom wall scribbling. That, and how satisfying it is to really get over the obstacles thrown your way.
September 30, 2025 at 12:58 PM
However it does turn what would otherwise be traditional exploration into, "goddammit where is the map guy? i got 2 upgrades and 3 bosses yet he still hasn't appeared I'm scared" You do get used to the exploring aspect when you have more confidence but man is the early game rough
September 30, 2025 at 12:58 PM
I'll be real, Hollow Knight is really drawn out. Just when you think you've stumbled on the farthest you've gone on the map there's always two or three holes that send you to another place entirely and there is some genuine novelty in that
September 30, 2025 at 12:58 PM
Now here I am, a few years later, and I'm a bit better at platformers, got a better laptop yet I'm still technically bad at it but that is its charm, where someone like me, who has the added debuff of having an irrational hatred towards caterpillars, can still play pretty good
September 30, 2025 at 12:58 PM
It's a rough gem but a gem nonetheless. Pretty in all the right places but you can't help but think it could be much better or engaging. It has it's moments but even I struggle with those

I give it a "I hoped you liked reading this as much I liked writing it"
September 28, 2025 at 12:25 PM
In where while the development is all manner of sorts fascinating, you can't help but think that time could probably be better spent and while there are those who do enjoy how those chapters unfolded I much preferred the raw and naive nature of the first half.
