It's me. I'm the "discussions about sexuality and erotic works in an academic context"!

Everyone appears to be enjoying this, so here's a follow-up.

What's everyone's favorite deep-sea creature? Mine is probably the vampire squid.

An entire generation has stories like these. I'm glad Cheney's gone.

I remember Brandon's going away party very clearly, as well as when his dad called us to tell us he was shot.

Got too excited during Presale and now I have two extra tickets to Florence + The Machine at the Moda Center in Portland in May. If you're interested in these tickets and have a Ticketmaster account, lemme know:

Halloween Horror Nights #20: The VVitch (2015)

"We will conquer this wilderness. It will not consume us."

Glorifies Satanism and makes the viewer understand why.

Halloween Horror Nights #19: The Exorcist (1973)

Two things can be true simultaneously: 1. This is a perfect film. 2. The director behaved without regard to his cast and crew and did idiotic things to achieve his vision. I don't care that
William Friedkin made The French Connection.

Sakura-Con's new panel submission rules require you not only to submit your presentation, but also to travel 27 years into the future and then back in time to relive 2025.

There's also a lot to pick apart: mortality vs immortality, generational abuse, and science's relationship with the proliferation of war. I mean, these are basically the same man.

Victor is a downright sunovabitch, though. Pascal does a fantastic job throughout. Really glad del Toro insisted on actual SETS for this because it makes a huge difference.

Halloween Horror Nights #18: Frankenstein (2025)

Guillermo del Toro's take on the classic is sumptuous, emotional, and the closest rendition of Mary Shelley's novel I've seen. Enjoyed the little literary Easter eggs and overt Mexican gothic imagery.

Halloween Horror Nights #17: The Descent (2005)

I hadn't seen this one! Really enjoyed it, especially after Sarah snapped. Erik and I had different opinions on the editing. I thought the quick cuts in the action scenes were disorienting and hard to take in. He enjoyed the frenetic pacing of it.

Halloween Horror Nights #16: Get Out (2017)

I hadn't revisited it since I saw it in theaters. Still a perfect film. Look Who's Coming to Dinner meets Body Snatchers encapsulated in political moment that Black people have been living in...forever.

Halloween Horror Nights #15: Carrie (1976)

While the final act is certainly the most iconic, I really like how DePalma used a soft-focus lens throughout to give it this ethereal, dreamlike quality. It's also interesting as the culturally misogynistic movie we've watched.

I am not a Christian but I'm pretty sure everything included in this "press release" is antithetical to the tenants of Christian faith.

Halloween Horror Nights #14: Cabin in the Woods (2011)
This is still a favorite of mine because I love the meta narrative that's slowly revealed throughout the film. Also some really fun background monsters! The Ballerina is a favorite.

Halloween Horror Nights #13: Tucker and Dale vs Evil (2010)

My mother is one generation out of sharecrop farming and work camps in Arkansas and California. This movie speaks to me.

It's also very funny.
