I agree - Hamnet is excellent, beautifully written, filmed and acted, about love and loss … and Shakespeare as a human being rather than some kind of demigod
It's kind of fashionable to say this isn't as good as people say. FWIW, as someone who read the book a few years back and saw the film yesterday, I'd have to say it, actually, it is (oh, and bring some tissues or a hanky). www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYcg...

Alex Forsyth (BBC) investigating road work mania thank goodness! Yesterday new roadworks sprung up like weeds. TfL unaccountable as are utilities who seem to dig up roads on repeat! And yet seeing someone working is like spotting a rare breed.

Nearly two years ago, I wrote about the extraordinary influence of former Tory spin doctor Sir Robbie Gibb on the BBC. It's still a helpful backgrounder for what's going on now. New readers start here: www.prospectmagazine.co.uk/ideas/media/...
How the government captured the BBC
A right-wing cabal, largely unaccountable, is waging war on the principles that made our public broadcaster great. It must not succeed

The leaked ‘BBC Bias’ memo Trump used to attack the BBC was authored by Michael Prescott — a Hanover lobbyist paid by US tech/media giants tied to Trump. Full story: bylinetimes.com/2025/11/11/b... 1/12

It’s already started - the BBC allows Newsmax boss to opine about bias, suggest some of the Jan 6 mob were merely innocent tourists visiting Congress, without pushback

‘A’ level standard of English for immigrants to get jobs here?! A lot of people with English as a 1st language don’t know the difference between they’re, their and there. And you’re and your defeat too many. What’s an ‘A’ level standard anyway? Written or spoken English? Discriminatory?

Thrilled about ensuring schools have libraries. But it is not a one-off expense. Books have to be bought regularly by people (librarians?) who know and love children’s literature-fiction and non-fiction. And it’s predictable where a Tory/Reform axe would fall.
