Since 2013, I have produced a mini-calendar of my art combined with my #haiku. It’s so rewarding to assemble my favorite pieces of the past year into one collection—and then to send it out across the country. You can find them at MakinoStudios.com for $12.

The ukiaHaiku Festival, held in Ukiah, CA, was such a nice event! I gave a keynote about my haiku journey, the elements of effective haiku, haiku-related forms and why we write haiku. People of all ages and walks of life shared their #haiku amid live music and good spirits.

The show title refers to the idea that those of Asian descent who live in Humboldt County straddle different cultures. There is an infinite variety of ways that artists express that complex reality; countless gates that connect those worlds.
April 9, 2025 at 1:53 AM
Excited to be part of an art show at the Morris Graves Museum of Art in Eureka, CA featuring 12 local artists of Asian ancestry! The show opens Sat., May 3, 6 to 9 p.m. "Ten Thousand Gates: A Celebration of Humboldt Asian American Artists" will run from April 26 to June 8.
