The current feckless leadership of the Democratic Party has radicalized me. Abolish ICE, pack the courts, primary everyone. If they’re doing their job, they prevail. If not, oh well. And TERFs can piss off.
Ooh, interesting. I am not sure about the parsnip. I’d try it- with reservations. We have a good size Jamaican population in Hartford. I might have to search a bit. Thanks!

It think the texture/consistency of a peach vs carrot would definitely require an alteration. Water content alone…
Carrot could be a good swap for coconut. Mango could stand in for peach
Okay, now I want coconut ice cream, and still want to try carrot ice cream. Someone make it available, dammit.

Okay, but the carrot ice cream is not too far off. We have carrot cake and Indian carrot halwa as desserts already. I would try it.

The others 😬

Just finished it last night. A lot of history rhyming in those stories.

I guess you look better upside down? At least to her.

Only a few states and cities have done anything to tackle this. More need to. And it would be nice if the federal government would. But certainly I’m not expecting that anytime in the next three years. Or longer…

When tipped staff do not make the state or federal minimum wage, they receive a tip credit to bring them up to that minimum. We don’t get that. I say this not to pit tipped workers against gig workers. It’s to more fully explain the situation and the need for regulation.

For a job that might involve driving up to 30 miles, and/or might take two hours to complete. The other point of non-comparison, is that as independent contractors, there are no protections. No workers compensation. We pay self-employment tax, the other half of Social Security withholding.
December 12, 2025 at 2:13 AM
But here is where the comparison falls apart. Servers are waiting on multiple customers at a time. On Instacart or DoorDash for example, you’re working on one to three customers usually. And again the pay is ridiculously low. As little as $4 for three customers on Instacart, $1 each on DoorDash
December 12, 2025 at 2:13 AM
Okay, but I was addressing your specific point about the size of the tip for gig workers. Should the platforms pay more? Yes. Should they be more upfront with customer on how much they pay their independent contractors? Yes. Should tipped employees make more than $2 an hour? Yes

How much do you think the person who drives to the store, shops your order and delivers to your house is paid? It’s not much, much less than minimum wage. For time and effort, yes, your tip needs to be in the 15% or higher range. Here is a current example of pay. This was a 20% tip btw.

Of course. I have platinum protection on Instacart, and I get mostly singles because of what I have taught the algorithm (it’s a two way street), and repeat customers who are thrilled to get me again. I primarily grocery shop on DD, which pays more, my acceptance is sub 10% and primarily regulars

They have been using their algorithms for years to figure out how little they can pay their “independent contractors” to do the jobs. When I first started in 2018, a 20 item order paid $20 ($12 base, $.40 per item). Now, it’s 2-3 different customers, 50+ items for as little as $4.

A lot of them aren’t upfront and actually use Instacart for the shop only and/or delivery piece. The order is probably shopped in store by one of their employees. On the Instacart delivery end, that Shopper/deliver is probably paid four dollars and tips. I know as a long time Instacart shopper.
