couching my critiques in greek philosophy with the best of em

anti-nihilism hannah arendt liberal, militant leibnizian optimist
it’s all in the curatorial presentation

for example, i strategically did not share my list of top stations, which includes not one but two different foo fighters songs and the English version of an anime op, in my post

asked Claude for a self deprecating joke about my apple music rewind and the model said: "my top genre is avant-garde jazz. i’m going to be alone forever and i deserve it"

the only reference to Plato’s Republic in The Technological Republic weaponizes the text to create a false binary: perfect moral purity vs. absolute corruption. classic elite apologetics

balaji srinivasan is a special advisor to Chainlink, and he's got a good bit in his book that describes exactly why they want to put everything on the blockchain.

the short version is it's adam tooze's bit about statistics being the driving force of history in Weimar

here's a good reader of nietzsche talking about bad readings:

"in studying nietzsche, we learn to master completely the
constant inclination to fall prey to the wording of utterances; we are trained to overcome the crudeness of arguing with isolated propositions."

lot of this going around lately!

graphic design was not that publisher’s passion apparently

OP: "why did they write about this??"

you: "because it’s important!!"

cultural aristocracy is not something we can tell a teleologically direct narrative from one guy to the next about, except through force. nietzsche does not argue that everyone should use force. he argues that one should live as though they could do this without force, simply through living. say yes

the entire section McManus cites here sets up an extended discussion and critique of the Hegelian master-slave dialectic. he removes the paragraph-level citation from his quote (it's 257) and then presents it as Nietzsche advocating for slavery, and it's as disingenuous as the reading he's mad abt

straight from the former clarium capital founder's mouth in 2007. the reason they're always going on about Strauss is that they think Strauss tells them Machiavelli said it was okay

reading Phaedrus yesterday had me rippin on how funny it is that Socrates' whole schtick is just this meme, and that whatever postmodernity collapses the distinction between "both true and false" and "neither true nor false" position to get out of it. it complicates my feelings about baudrillard

one thing that’s confirmed by the new yorker article on yarvin is that State Dept officials do not read their Nietzsche, because this is just not a concept that appears anywhere in his work

ig it makes sense that hannah arendt would bring the object back into heidegger’s labor argument insofar as the object’s value is derived from its lack of use-value, but you don’t need Beauty to make that argument either, as Kojeve is doing here
