Medievalist specializing in the Nordic Middle Ages, crazy about books, Japan, anime, languages and fermented food.
Still on a fermentation high. Here you can see liquid gold, which will be ready to use in about 4 weeks. Garlic honey. The garlic will be nice and soft and caramelized; use it as regular and honey instead of sugar. And sometimes I like to snack on a clove of garlic. #fermentation #garlic #honey

Finally checked something off my bucket list: the old Berlin city wall from the Middle Ages. There is still a free-standing section from the 13th century on Littenstraße, and remnants of the wall can be found built into houses all around. But not much more than 120 meters seems to have survived.

Here is another koji experiment. Since I still had some koji rice and it was approaching its best-before date, I quickly made some green lentil miso. Now I have to wait six months before I know how it tastes. #koji #lentils #miso

Here is my latest kitchen experiment: I had some spelt koji left , so I simply mixed itwith a little salt and onions. After looking at the photo, I will definitely pack everything even more tightly. Wait for ten days and see how it turns out. #koji #spelt #onions

Origami Pikachu, requested by little Lina. It bears some resemblance to Yoda and, in terms of color, to Winnie the Pooh. The instructions are from #happpuppytruffles (YouTube). #origami #pokemon #pikachu

I finally got to visit the Mori Ōgai Memorial in Berlin, Luisenstraße. Unfortunately, it was closed and the weather was terrible, but I still managed to take a photo. As a big Bungou Stray Dogs fan, he is more than familiar to me. #berlin #moriougai #bungoustraydogs

I needed something to read on my commute, and even though I'm not that far into the Tokyo Revengers story yet, I picked up volume 13 and was excited to see “Ragnarok” mentioned in it. I always enjoy seeing Nordic elements in manga and anime.

Good morning, with whole grain emmer bread, matcha cream cheese, and cucumber slices. Inspired by #matchaunion. Have a great day! #bread #cucumbers #creamcheese

Today I received a letter and, surprisingly, it contained origami instructions for folding a bird. What a joy, because I've been a big fan of origami since elementary school. I folded a slightly different bird and now it sits in my crassula, which I'm currently nurturing. Thank you, #Nabu! #origami

I had been wanting to make carbonara for days, but ended up cooking something else. Today was the day, finally. I went back to one of our favourite recipes. The recipe goes back to Alice Vollenweider and it's simply brilliant. #carbonara #noodles #Vollenweider

Is autumn around the corner? It's definitely cooler and windier, . As of today, I'm better prepared for colder temperatures, as I have two new cozy and eco-friendly blankets. Plus, I could eat soba all the time right now, today with shiitake mushrooms and scallions. #soba #plantbased #scallions

A while back, I saved this recipe and, like so many others recipes, forgot it. Now I stumbled across it again, and since I had everything I needed, I made Egg Drop Soba today according to #happydonabelife. I'm thinking about making it again tomorrow because soba are simply delicious. #eggs #soba

Today it's warm again and I don't feel like cooking. I made Japanese tofu salad with shiitake mushrooms, carrots, spinach, and dried figs from Itadakimasu Recipe Cooking Japan, and cold kimchi noodles from The Korean Vegan.

A friend of mine told me about tahini matcha latte. We tried it out by mixing my usual matcha latte recipe with a tablespoon of tahini. Was okay, but maybe there's a better recipe out there. I used supermarket matcha, which probably doesn't deserve to be called matcha. #matchalatte #tahini #matcha

After realizing yesterday how wonderful it is to read more, here is my reminder photo so that I can finally (re)read these books. Haven't read some of these books in years, even though they are good friends. Stacked them perfectly unevenly, and one book is upside down 😅

Monochrome cooking is back, although the word “cooking” is more than an exaggeration. Here is my recreation of #ochikeron ’s sesame toast. It was very filling, but also very sweet. Maybe I got the sugar amount wrong? #sesame #toast

Went to the Asian grocery store and bought fresh tofu: made : SHANGHAI-STYLE CENTURY EGG & TOFU from #chinesecookingdemystified and cold tofu with cucumber vinaigrette from #NancySingletonHachisu. The third side dish was natto with chili oil and lots of scallions. Yummy. #tofu #natto #cucumber

Yesterday's dinner is one of my favorites, even though I only discovered it about a year ago: 老奶洋芋 - Yunnan Grandma's Mashed Potatoes. Used yacai; I can't really imagine sauerkraut going well with this dish. As always, the recipe is not mine. #chinesecookingdemystified #potatoes #plantbased

This is a real comfort food: Creamy Nutty Soba. Unfortunately, I had run out of soba noodles, so I used Chinese wheat noodles instead. A big thank you goes to the YouTube channel #TakoshihoCooksJapan. I could never come up with something so simple and delicious on my own. #noodles #vegan

Last week, I finally went to the Central Asian restaurant Silk Road in Cologne. It was a very nice evening with good food. We had flatbread, kurutob (beef, bread, dried cheese, and much more), and tschak-tschak (cake-like dessert with honey, nuts, and raisins). #silkroadcologne

It's warm outside, so a quick and easy meal is needed: I've been wanting to try noodles with spring onion oil from #soyasoyang for a long time. Definitely worth it - highly recommended.

So satisfying: I based the recipe on #eastmeetskitchen and varied it based on my pantry. I made congee with kimchi and smoked tofu. Should be made more often.

Unfortunately, it's hard to get good rice flakes near me, but I would have to try the wholefoods shop again. But when I do have rice flakes, I definitely make kanda poha, here slightly modified using the recipe from Cooketteria with chickpeas.
