It’s hard not to feel hopeless and unsafe when this country wants you to feel hopeless and unsafe. It might take more time and energy but I am going to keep being a good person, making art, and fighting oppression. This is a promise to myself, feel free to join me.

Heteronormativity robbed many of us of school dances and proms and kisses stolen under the bleachers and introducing our parents to our crushes and notes passed in class — dotted with hearts — and writing out an imaginary married name.

I think it’s OK if we get a month.
