And it's actually FOR old people. "I'm old / I go in the booth like Cocoon." Woods is apparently 47.

The one revelation I had about LCD this year is that my latest crop of US college students didn't know them at all, like they didn't even understand what I was talking about when I mentioned them. They like The Strokes and Radiohead so it's not bc they are anti-millenial.

For years I thought there was an American beer brand called la-GOO-nee-tas. Then one day it clicked that I was definitely saying it wrong, because it's from California and should sound like Spanish (lagunitas = little ponds).

This is because the labeler apparently marks a whole account as rude, so then everything they post gets the label. Alongside everything else this is clearly just the incorrect way to implement it. An accurate label would be "this poster is sometimes rude."

Surely the way lots of platforms (like slate!) handle it is annoying, but I see no reason to bother individual writers about it.

My one complaint that is orthoganol to this fake-ass boomer cartoon is that at some places you have to wait a few minutes to get your black coffee, because the whole system is built around making elaborate drinks. A good shop has a separate workflow for quick and simple orders, a bad shop does not.

Well, I'll tell you what: The kids at the college I teach at (small private Catholic school) are remarkably familiar with the popular music made before they were born, along with its attendant trivia. This is not only because of the internet but also bc they actually like their "cool" parents.

So, I mean, de gustibus non est disputandum and all that but I was over him before it was cool. I disagree that he suddenly became a dick, it was in there in a lot of ways.

I really didn't like a lot of Chewed Up (the special where he decided he's Dr. Slur), and then I saw him do a scripted conversation with his friends on Louis where they indirectly discuss the bit where he uses F----- and decided, you know what, this isn't fun.

Looks like it's all NYPD doing the pushing, note that they aren't hiding their faces, have proper uniforms etc.

I hate to say it, but they could use the goddamn blockchain to refer back to every camera and piece of software that touches the image, and use some sort of encryption process to bind the metadata to the file.

Her complaint is not even reasonable or accurate. This is like the woman from the childrens' book vendor who claimed that she became a porn addict from reading a childrens book.

NYC can be a bit dodgy depending on what kind of sky access you have. The signal gets weaker if it has to go through / reflect off buildings to get to you. But still its cheap and worth trying regardless.

He talks about the Beatles as a parents' band, but my dad preferred Dylan, and I thought that was fine actually. This really is a Your Mileage May Vary situation.
November 23, 2025 at 6:27 PM
I mean, I did not have any Beatles records yet, mostly because the "classic rock" radio format avoided them, for the most part. (I was a classic rock snob at 14, and pivoted to alt as I got older.) But the enemy for snobs was current pop and hair bands, like Craig says.
