Hindu homeland politics will also corrode India’s competitive edge in the neighbourhood against China. It severely limits Delhi’s bargaining power in countries where Beijing is successfully building good relations with *all* constituencies without any cultural preference. (5/n)

What is this but not a highly sectarian iteration of post-Partition diplomacy that positions India as the spokesperson of a specific religious community in South Asia? This is a rough road that ends in even more collective discomfort against India as a regional hegemon. (4/n)

Vulnerable Hindus in #Myanmar who are fighting the military regime have been calling on the Modi gov to stand up for them, but to no avail. So, even within Hindu homeland diplomacy, Delhi seems to be selectively focused on Muslim-majority countries. (3/n)

“Indian concerns” on Bangladesh should ideally be the protection of *all* minorities without privileged mention of Hindus. In fact, if Delhi has to speak up for vulnerable minorities in its neighbourhood, what about Shias in Pak, Hindus in Myanmar & Hazaras in Afghanistan? (2/n)
