Huh, turns out united opposition swiftly and decisively rebutting would-be authoritarians works better than taking a couple weeks and hoping it works out for the best.

🧵 Why do “Indian concerns” on the situation in Bangladesh sound more like “Hindu concerns”? Is India’s South Asia policy now based on Hindu homeland politics? Why are most Indian foreign policy analysts not bothered about this precipitous shift? Are they ok with this? (1/n)

Kenyan senator Richard Onyonka accuses #Adani group of 'state capture' in #Kenya. Interesting term, most recently rooted in the South African experience with the Gupta family & Jacob Zuma. Also, an apt term for India today, where agencies seem to be acting at the behest of specific corporates.

International Criminal Court issues arrest warrants for Netanyahu, former defence minister Yoav Gallant & Hamas leader, Mohammed Diab Ibrahim Al-Masri.

Technically, if any of them land up in an ICC Member State, they should be arrested & handed to The Hague.

What are the chances that modi will steadily abandon adani if latter becomes too much of a liability? Rebuking the Canadians is one thing, but America is a different ball game.

The US just vetoed *another* UN Security Council resolution. It demanded "an immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire" & "immediate and unconditional release of all hostages."

14 voted in favor.
1—the US—opposed.

This is the 4th UNSC ceasefire resolution US has vetoed.

Don’t forget who has been at the forefront of BJP’s toxic electoral campaign in #Jharkhand – Assam CM, Himanta Biswa Sarma. He went out of his way to graft #Assam’s anti-minority, anti-“foreigner” discourse into Jharkhand. Hence, you see toxic ads like that.

Nearly 2 years ago, The Gambia, a small west African country, dragged Myanmar to the ICJ for its genocidal campaign against the Rohingya (& successfully secured provisional measures). Today, South Africa is doing the same to Israel for its mass murder of Palestinians.

We’re seeing a new kind of political capitalism in India today where willing corporates are able to use the rhetoric produced by the regime on social media to generate new profit cycles. Low cost, high output model of crony capitalism fed by a radicalised consumer base.

Yet again, the #Myanmar junta bombs its own civilians – this time a Church in Kanan village near Khampat (Sagaing Region), right next to the India-Myanmar border. 11 reported killed, incl children.

India calls itself a “Vishwa-Mitra” (global friend), but won’t use its leverage to stop these crimes.
