I was born in St Albans in winter 1963. The snow was so deep that my Dad couldn't visit me and Mum in the hospital.

All I know is that for me, making a decision not to fly unless due to exceptional circumstances 20 years ago has been a huge liberation. Staycations, holidays in the UK and even touring holidays in Europe, it has been wonderful to actually travel about instead of hanging about an airport for hours.

We had that Biology textbook which contained the immortal sentence, 'The sense of smell is easily fatigued'. I always remember this when encountering a new and unpleasant whiff.
