Went down some rabbit holes trying to find how much Canada has collected in import duties - finally found the line in the fiscal monitor - last March Canada collected $427M, this March it shot up to $1,044M. Table 2, here: publications.gc.ca/collections/...

Sure, here it is. Not only are their exports to us smaller in absolute terms (about 2/3rds of what we sell them), their economy is much larger, and a bigger share of the total is final consumer goods.

The top two sectors in terms of value are the same as the top two in terms of US share - not great - our highest value export sectors would have the biggest share hit with a 10% US tariff. And NAFTA 2.0 is set to be renegotiated, so he's definitely going to want to squeeze us.

Donald Trump is talking about a blanket 10% tariff on all goods entering the US, so I was curious about exactly how much stuff we sell them - it's a lot, by share of exports and by amount of money - even for food, which I expected to be more diversified, it's about half.

Oh, and for everyone who *can't* afford to buy a house, this chart is a big f*ck-you - Even if these programs help you, do you think the required down payment for a starter house will increase by more or less than $29K over the next five years? It's just so inadequate to the current moment.

I was so happy to see this response from the labour movement in Saskatchewan when the current government decided the popular thing to do is to direct teachers to out vulnerable kids to their parents, or drive them further into hiding.
