These are the actual Polaroids taken in the foyer of the vampire house during the opening scene of last night’s episode 9 of WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS’ on FX (and today on the Hulu). ‘Nandor’ shot these of me as the fabulous ‘Baron Afanas’ before another big night for me!

Few characters have hurt me as much as these two.

When a hearse pulls up in front of your place, it could be making a pick up or a delivery—and I don’t want either.

So I painted it.

There is something about the look of modern CG that I can’t stand. I can’t tell if it’s the “golden” ambience/lightning of sets or the crispness of things looking fake.
I can’t put my finger on it but I hate it.

Reminder to lovers of the golden age of piracy, Treasure Island, period queer content, anarchism, Maroons, a great tale of revenge and betrayals, and have tolerance for mature content (from good to horrible), you should absolutely watch Black Sails. It's the best pirate TV series ever.

I created this painting "Dinosaur Parade" in 1990, before I invented the whole concept of Dinotopia. I just wanted to give a glimpse of a lost empire that humans shared with peaceful dinosaurs.

Jumping through that picture frame and living inside the painting changed my life.
