1/7. In case you haven’t been following, here is a short summary of the misnamed Russian-American "peace process" regarding Ukraine.

Hard truths:

- US is gone
- Peace deal is a long time off, not currently realistic
- Russia must be defeated on battlefield

- Strategy has to be:
- help Ukr defeat Ru
- build European forces to deter

Could result in hot war for UK/EU regardless.

This goes for anything for which the US is the single or principal supplier.

Another example? Cloud IT services.

If Trump weaponised access to @microsoft365.microsoft.com @googleworkspace.bsky.social, @amazonwebservices.bsky.social, Azure etc, even for a day, entire economies could be screwed.
As the war in Ukraine reveals Europe’s reliance on Starlink satellites, the EU needs to build an alternative. Read FT columnist Alan Beattie’s argument for resilient and diverse satellite networks: www.ft.com/content/8634...

When it was just a ship rushing headlong into an anchored tanker full of jet fuel, leased to the US mlitary, easily spotted miles off, we only raised an eyebrow.

But now there's surely grounds for at least a little suspicion as to whether this was really an accident?

Concerning.

And now Trump is turning off military aid to Ukraine too.

What will it take for European leaders to see that clinging onto false hope will prevent us from saving ourselves?

Trump is not someone we can negotiate with in good faith.

Plan B now.

Every one of these points is correct, and this is where we will end up.

Too many people are wasting too much time on the delusion that a peace plan can be made to work, and that the US will have anyone's back going forward.

We need to change gears now, not next year or even next month.
The Trump-Vance ambush of Zelensky tells us many things:
1. Trump & Vance always lie.
2. They are as rude as they get, so stay away from these rogues.
3. Trump works for Putin. The US is not part of any Western alliance. Trump has actually finished NATO.
March 3, 2025 at 8:22 PM
"They" in this context means Ukraine AND Europe, not just Zelensky as I saw @skynewsrss.bsky.social report.

Trump is signalling he *won't* provide a US backstop.

I fear Kier Starmer is flogging a dead horse, and just hope he has a plan B, as from here on in it looks as though Europe is on our own.

Honestly I expected to wake to a flood of pro-Ukraine, anti-Trump comments.

Has Hollywood prostrated itself too?

I got curious, and learnt:

1. The argument that the US pays too much for European security has (at least) been exaggerated.

2. The shortfall Europe would need to make up if the US did less, or withdrew from NATO, might therefore be far more achievable than many of us imagine.

How so? 🧵

Wonder how many Russian troops are still in that pocket?

It appears there is only one road out and Ukr forces are very close to denying use of that road.

Just the sort of news we need to help show that the Ukrainians still hold plenty of cards.
Ukrainian forces have punched deep holes into Russian defenses in Toretsk and re-entered into large part of the city. They have already entered the ruins of the city center.

This is not about regime change. Or peace.

It's about getting Ukraine to agree to a bad deal.

Zelensky has already agreed to resign for a good deal.

A bad deal = surrender, further proof of a pro-Russian agenda.

A new president will be in the same position so Europe cannot fall for this.
Relations with the US look irreparable if Trump remains president

Many in the US say they do not support Trump. If an election was held today he might even lose.

But by the time an election does happen, too much will have changed, Trump may even have enabled a 3rd term.

You guys don't have that sort of time. You have to eject him from office sooner.

Likely applies to IKEA, and Christmas shopping too.
Ever wondered why walking around museums is weirdly tiring? At normal speed our legs act like pendulums, swinging forward from the hip & saving us a huge amount of energy. In "museum shuffle" our muscles must do ALL the work of constant readjustment. So cake in the cafe is scientifically justified 🥳
