We've got some Nesta reaction to the Budget up, underpinned by some brilliant speedy analysis by my colleague Dan Lewis.

Budget day thought - What would the public sector innovation version of a budget be? An apple-esque keynote? New services or products - here’s what you can expect from gov, here’s how you’ll benefit.

We actually have a new update on the data side of this work up today - on how we’re trying to cluster properties that are suitable for different types of heat technology

Gutted. I almost managed to get over the fence at Glastonbury but was caught by security and told to go back and carry on watching Rod Stewart.

Got to stress the heat pump was not quick either - 34 days from contacting the installer to commissioning. And Andy’s circumstances were a bit unusual (primarily that he already had a hot water tank and his central heating needed some work). But still…

It’s 100 years since the shipping forecast was first broadcast. A while ago I used a few Ai tools to write an energy forecast for offshore wind in the style of the shipping forecast. Is it time for an energy forecast? - murf.ai/share/lk895u0q

Getting a heat pump can be complex. Many will need to make home improvements first to be 'heat pump ready.'

Nesta's @acjsissons.bsky.social suggests a 2-step journey: a winter-ready service to optimise current systems, followed by a second step to support the switch to a heat pump. bit.ly/4isiHZL
Getting a heat pump should be a small step not a giant leap
A "heat pump ready" service for homes could smooth the transition to clean heat

One of the big things I'm working on atm is Clean Heat Neighbourhoods - the idea we could switch to clean heating alongside neighbours, not just on our own.
But it's hard to explain - so we made a video to try and do that...

What did politicians and news presenters do in cold weather before wearing Uniqlo padded gilets under a more formal jacket? It’s a terrible look.

I've got a quick policy brief out this morning, on the case for local planning of heat and energy in Britain.

Local plans could help in many ways, making the transition smoother and probably cheaper overall. We should do it everywhere, and fund it properly!

We’ve (@nestauk.bsky.social) published an update to our coordinated switching work - as we think households and industry could benefit from a more coordinated approach to low carbon heat.

After heat pump advice - I'm hopefully having an ASHP installed as our boilers broken - it'll be installed in a position that isn't where we'd want it long-term. How much work/cost is involved in moving the outdoor unit once we have planning? We're only really talking about rotating it 90 degrees.

Better quality homes, resilient jobs, cheaper energy, cleaner air, healthier places to live and work? 🤷
but the big Q for UK politics in next four years will be: why bother? on climate (without the US goodbye 1.5C) growth (good luck with that in a trade war) Middle East policy (face it we're not the big player) you name it, we'll need reasons to keep doing the right thing for possibly zero reward
