*this rant is about the fan reaction to Alien Earth

It definitely has that modern cgi blockbuster look to the lighting, and it doesn’t need to because it actually has sets and costumes and purposeful camera moves. I think it works tho because it is making so many smart artistic choices elsewhere that the lighting doesn’t ruin the frame for me.

I get that it uses a lot of backlighting which works for some moments but not others and I would have loved a faux-technicolor look as much as the next person but I think it is still one of the better uses of the “modern” film look and most of the shots are actually really gorgeous.

There is an argument that the remake is the best one. It has all the iconography, distills the series down to its essence, gory kills that aren’t ruined by the MPAA, and running Jason is terrifying.

(The actual best part of the franchise was the game)

Immediately asking for money before even offering a single explanation or world of comfort….my god this useless party’s gotta go.
