It rather depends which taxes are raised, doesn't it? The manifesto pledge was to not raise income tax. An obvious alternative would be to raise Capital Gain Tax rates to those of Income Tax: effectively treating all forms of income equally

Correction. Our economic problems began with Thatcher and Reagan's embrace of neoliberal economics in the 1980s. Since then that adoption of both parties of this dogma has served only to enrich the already rich while the wealth of the woking class stagnated
