REMEMBER KIDS IF YOU’RE POSH AND WELL-CONNECTED YOU CAN PAY YOURSELF A FORTUNE, GET ON THE RADIO AND TELE, WRITE BOOKS ABOUT PUERILE, OVERSIMPLIFIED ARCHITECTURAL ISSUES, BUT STILL DESIGN BLAND BUILDINGS AND PRODIGAL, PURPOSELESS BRIDGES WITHOUT BOTHERING TO QUALIFY AS AN ACTUAL ARCHITECT.

Probably one of my favourite stories about taxidermy and South London.

An Overstuffed Taxidermy Walrus Comes Home
When Victorian taxidermists received a strange creature with heavy folds of grooved skin, they thought all those wrinkles needed to be smoothed out. And so...

Thanks to @andy-matthews.bsky.social for letting me know that a building we worked on in our past lives is in this month's @news.architectsjournal.co.uk.

Struck by the uncanny nature of the photos that look as polished as renders and their role the image-based economy architecture reproduces.

How did the tech bro crowd, growing up on stories of sci-fi, transhumanism, virtual reality and limitless ability to modify one's body, "biohacking," etc. end up becoming so viscerally anti-transgender? Truly boggles my mind.

The place is a beautifully maintained and preserved time capsule with some fantastic furniture - I particularly loved the leather seating in the brick alcove and the green chairs in the undercroft (thread)

Designed by Bournemouth-based architect Ronald Sims, it opened 1969. The main chapel looks like this with Scandinavian style woodwork, an amazing roof, cantilevered balconies & stained glass panels (thread)

Delighted to hear that Bristol’s Broadmead Baptist Church (aka the church above the shops) has been Grade II listed. I went inside in 2018 and the interior was a revelation (thread)

On the left, my image. On the right, the Al image that was clearly trained on, and designed to plagiarize, my image.

All Al generated imagery is inherently theft. It's unethical, environmentally disastrous, and does irreparable harm to both artists and society.

We gained consent for this a few weeks ago. Really enjoyed the process of pre-app and then negotiating the final planning application. We did this without a planning consultant and are overjoyed to have gained consent. Hoping to build it next year.

The Oasis, Swindon.

Spent lots of summers here on the slides and in the waves. Sadly it’s looking quite sad now.

A wise man reminded me this morning that in the exact same time period, France managed to exquisitely repair the Notre Dame while absolutely nothing has been done to fix Hammersmith bridge.
