Just finished reading this for the first time. Surprised to see that Shoeburyness ( my home town) and Southend are mentioned. All the action takes place in London and the south east and not where the Tom Cruise film is set.

It’s taken me nearly 80 years to realise that the post box close to where I grew up is a “GR”. You don’t see these very often.

Tommy Flowers, an unsung hero of WW2. In total secrecy he built the world’s first digital computer which was used by the codebreakers at Bletchley Park. A Post Office engineer, he received no recognition of his work except his name on this, now rundown and closed building in the East End.

Bap Union anchored near to the Mulberry Harbour caisson which broke its tow on the way to the D Day beaches, got stuck on a sandbank and broke its back.
