Thanks, yes this was part of the issue, also another map I saw with the bat protection labelled in the wrong place. I understand now.

Is Sheephouse Wood actually on the main HS2 line between London and Birmingham, or is this additional rail infrastructure for the future?

Fair enough, fencing can be pricey. A cheaper option is to tube and stake any tree seedlings that you do find. Depending where you are, might be some local organisations that might visit and offer advice, even some support. Good luck. Hope to see successful photos in 5-15 years!

Lucky you. Maybe fence it off and be patient, see if you can encourage some natural colonisation from nearby native species first?
