Seeing a lot of mainstream media outlets talking about respectability and dignity being the way forward in the new age of Trump.

Respectability politics and virtue signaling are part of the formula that gave us Trump again. Respectability without justice and dignity without rights are farces.

Great day for Dems so far. Will have to see how Prop. 50 does in California but if it passes, Trump will be 0-4 in major races that he has gotten involved in.

Not to mention local elections that Dems have done well in. Tonight has been a pretty strong repudiation of Trump 2.0.

If any of the other points of Trump’s plan actually happen, including him chairing a “transitional” committee governing Palestine, how many of his family members do you think will be on? I’m betting at least Jared and Ivanka. He may even give Don, Jr. and Eric something to do. This plan is fishy.

Promise? Please?
Lord give us the Democrats that Republicans warn us about.
Thune: "If the Democrats had won the majority, they probably would've tried to nuke the filibuster. And then you'd have four new senators from Puerto Rico and DC, you'd have a packed Supreme Court, you'd have abortion on demand ... "

Let us not forget that Qatar and Egypt did the bulk of the negotiations. Trump just took a meeting with Netanyahu because Netanyahu has no other allies b/c his government is committing a genocide. If Trump really cared about Palestine he would not have attacked the free speech of pro 🇵🇸 protestors.

The reason Kimmel was kicked off air is that MAGA is becoming a new political religion in which Charlie Kirk is the martyred messenger of the deity, being Trump himself. In religious terms, Chairman Carr is the inquisitor bringing the charge of heresy against Kimmel with the full power of the state

The continued civil sanctification of Charlie Kirk by this administration is making clear that to them, his body and his views are the nations’ they are making it clear:

Compassion is not an American value, diversity is not an American value, inclusion is not an American value.

It is disturbing.
More than 100,000 people, including President Trump and Vice President JD Vance, are expected to attend a memorial service for Charlie Kirk at a football stadium and nearby overflow arena in Arizona on Sunday.

🧵 Murder is absolutely wrong, full stop. I am noticing, however, some interesting patterns in how today’s tragedy is being covered. Often, Kirk’s killing has been reduced to disagreement with his political opinions and views without considering the real life damage to millions: trans folks, women,

Marcuse had it exactly right in One-Dimensional Man and we are seeing it with our eyes:

“Under the rule of a repressive whole, liberty can be made into a powerful instrument of domination.”

Yep. Watch the operation of Hindutva in India to watch the Christian nationalist playbook for what’s coming in the US. Hindu nationalists and Christian nationalists have been listening to each other for some time, explicitly so at NatCon 4.
The future of the US...

"documents proving his Indian citizenship were snatched by police when they detained him in his hometown of Surat in India...He is stranded...in a foreign country, effectively stateless, separated from his wife & 4 children who rely on his meager income as a waste picker."

This part. Not only is this bill a tax cut for the wealthy. It is an all out war on humanity. Of course Dems are too cowardly to call these what they are: concentration camps. But they need to wake up fast. Cowardice is a part of the reason the Weimar Republic fell so quickly to Nazism.
Can we make this an ad?
Politics in the US today is about as morally simple as it has ever been. The only relevant question is “Do you support totally eviscerating the already threadbare US social safety net to fund a system of concentration camps for immigrants and people of color, or do you not support that?”

Not only does this Big Ugly Fucked Up Bill cut billions of dollars in funding for resources that help some the most vulnerable groups in our population: children, seniors, the disabled, etc. It also adds around $5 trillion to the national debt to pass onto future generations. Hate to say it but FAFO

Real leadership. Meanwhile, the DNC somewhere “We promise constitutional checks and balances if you give us a majority first, 17 months from now.” There could practically not be a Constitution 17 months from now…
AOC: “It is absolutely and clearly grounds for impeachment.”

💯 This news makes me so happy! I don’t know anyone more deserving. Congratulations! 🍾
I will never forget this male prof in my grad program telling me that "people like me do not belong in graduate school because you will never get a job." I questioned my worth as a person, student, & scholar. But, I persevered.

Today, I can say that people like me are tenured and promoted.

🧵 The more I read Decolonial and Native scholarship, the more I suspect what Black and Brown voices have been saying for years. Most white liberal activism is an attempt to flee to innocence rather than seeking genuine justice and liberation for oppressed groups. That would be much more costly

While the attack in Boulder can clearly be called terrorism and antisemitism, the way this is being framed is troubling to me. There are currently no allegations this man said anything against Jewish people other than Free Palestine. Which sounds like the state of Israel=Judaism.
June 2, 2025 at 3:35 PM
We may have already reached the point where the simultaneous condemnation of the assault on Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank and the attack in Boulder is not possible in public discourse. And that is exactly what the increasingly authoritarian governments of the US and Israel want.

Just waiting for Trump’s tariffs to ruin the economies of nations that rely heavily on imports to the US like many Central and South American countries which will cause an increase in migration so Trump can see “See it’s an invasion. The rule of law must be suspended until we know what’s going on.”

In his Prison Notebooks, Gramsci predicted a kind of Modern Prince who would be the very embodiment of the national-popular collective. All activity of the nation would be defined as good or evil based solely on if it strengthens or weakens the p
Prince. It appears that Trump is the Modern Prince.
May 3, 2025 at 2:28 AM
Gramsci remains as relevant today than ever. In his Prison Notebooks he notes that the differences between the two major parties in Italy’s development were more of temperament than of an actually political difference. Is it not the same with Dems and the GOP now? Especially regarding Palestine.

Something I’ve been thinking about recently: how are politically active left wing exvangelicals not also considered Christian nationalists? It seems to me that they envision America to be a Christian nation with their interpretation of Christianity in charge. The line is a little bit blurry imo.

And a nod to Piers Anthony for being important to teenage me but also so so obviously bad now and so easily reviled by/embarrassing to adult me.
