Also, please remember that strikes are meant to disrupt. We wouldn’t have workers’ rights without them. But also, the strike isn’t happening just to inconvenience YOU. If you’re bothered by it, support the workers & tell the corp to negotiate fairly. /end.

10. The strike isn’t just about wages (but those need to be raised due to inflation & to be livable), but also about better benefits, better working hours, etc.

8. Previous Canada Post strikes have helped bring workers’ rights to people across the country in careers outside of mail delivery.
9. The strike hurts the postal workers too. They just want a decent contract so they can get back to normal.

6. Other mail services outsource to Canada Post. Yes, Amazon & the couriers too. Many won’t deliver outside of cities/larger towns, so hand off parcels to Canada Post.
7. Wages are lower than you think, especially for rural drivers.

4a. They happen when the contract ends & bargaining isn’t going anywhere.
5. Canada Post is essential for many Canadians. It’s the only mail service that delivers almost everywhere in the country, including the most rural parts of Canada.

2a. The union also held off on negotiating during the early part of the pandemic, extending the old contract.
3. Postal workers didn’t want to strike & when they did vote to strike, they wanted a rotating one, but the corp locked them out.
4. Canada Post strikes do NOT always happen at Christmas.

Stop commenting on the Canada Post strike if you don’t actually know the details. 🧵
1. Canada Post is a Crown corporation, but it is NOT taxpayer funded.
2. Bargaining started in November 2023. The corp had A YEAR to negotiate, but they refused to do so in good faith.
