Making short, finished(?) games in Godot

📍GR, MI - software dev and 3d artist. I made the niche horror game Anemoiapolis: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1522960/Anemoiapolis_Chapter_1/
I've been trying to make placeholders as ugly as possible so that I'm forced to change them, either it works or I am going to have a very clashing color palette

Shows that you really can't bet the core of your product on proprietary code, especially if it isn't finished yet.

Optimization+visual consistency+correct scale is key for making a game like this. Seems like they fired an art director and started evaluating everything based on 'detail'.

Seems like there was a collision of misfortune and mistakes around this game.

I dabbled in Unity's ECS and DOTS way back in 2019, I never would've guessed that it would still be 'experimental' 5 years later.

On the other hand, using hair sims and 7-figure polycounts without a plan for LODs... oof

Not suprising, most game meshes are non-uniform since any unnecessary geometry is deleted. The backfaces don't get rendered to save resources.

Definitely a product of having backface culling not enabled by default in blender. Also causes a lot of beginners to give up on making video game assets in blender

Seems even more inefficient to continuously export and check the model in an external software like 3d viewer

I'm too chicken to use boolean modifiers, but that's because I have to make UVs

Makes sense. I wish blender would make backfaces a different color by default. Also I need a mode that highlights non-manifold areas while editing (instead of having to do the non-manifold query every time).

Sounds like it would be useful for 3d printing too

Cool. So as long as the shapes are airtight and overlapping each other, they become a solid shape? (I can blender but I cant printer)

James Dobson was the first true crime podcaster, so the bar was set too low right off the bat.

(Not to mention peppers, onions, beans, etc)

Absolutely. Lentils and broth are modern elixirs.

Spooky fact #3: the CDC has been gutted so if the zombies come, we won't even know what the fuck is going on.

The bed segment at the beginning is so funny.

So how do you like godot aside from GDscript?

There's a soccer stadium being built across the street from their graves in Grand Rapids MI

The first thing he must have done on the internet was visit cow dot com

I think of New Order the way I do about Fury Road. It's nothing new, but everything it does is so robust that it stands out from the rest. Fury Road didn't cook my computer when it came out though.

People were tired of the gruff white male protag and there was a lot of good stuff coming out around that time. I also think the intrigue of the story wasn't really communicated in the game's marketing.
