Five fearless footballers, including a future Deputy Governor of the Bank of England in 1970. I WISH it was taken in colour. Our shirts were a beautiful mixture of pink and chocolate, a legacy of flower power and the swinging sixties !!

I'm not sure this provides an explanation. Rather like Sir Richard Sykes' belief that the genomic revolution would lead to 'smaller, more effective clinical trials' I suspect that the reality will be far from the ideal. From a 2005 PWC report 'Pharma 2005: an industrial revolution in R & D'.

It's not new. This is an extract from a letter to the HR dept of a large Pharma company in 1990 complaining about an advertisement in the New Scientist seeking statisticians. The author was a biochemist.
