HONEY DON'T! is, to put it mildly, a honey boo boo of a film. More frustrating than DRIVE-AWAY DOLLS because Margaret Qualley's character has so much more oomph and panache in this that the meandering nothing of a story feels more wasteful of her. Like a bad Tarantino-wannabe retread of BLOOD SIMPLE

One of the great things about ALIEN: EARTH is how much of its effects are practical, like Morrow's cyborg arm which is done as a glove (pictured):

Trying to think of a way to eulogize Robert Redford, an absolute titan of an actor—effortlessly handsome and charming but putting in solid work—without being a "celebrity." Just watch his films: BUTCH & SUNDANCE, ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN, THE STING, THE GREAT WALDO PEPPER, THREE DAYS, etc., etc.

JFK is a great paranoia thriller, this time ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN in the form of a courtroom drama. Truly astonishing cast—mostly comedians—scope, boldness and bravado. Stone takes audiences back (in time) and to the left (politically) in a film about the greatest crime perpetrated against the US.

BAD DAY AT BLACK ROCK is a great noir/Western with a cast to die for: Spencer Tracy, Robert Ryan, Walter Brennan, Anne Francis, Ernest Borgnine, Lee Marvin... John Sturges proves a steady hand at a sleazy pulp reckoning with US treatment of Japanese Americans during WWII and the aftermath of it.

TRADING PLACES is perhaps the best class comedy ever made, an indictment of wealth and the ridiculousness and cruelty of it, + the bullshit scam of it, decades before something like THE WOLF OF WALL STREET. Cast is phenomenal. Murphy was riding high, Aykroyd and Curtis are great, Elliott, the rest.

HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL is a weird, rare beast where production design almost makes the picture. Opening by calling a place where patients are vivisected alive LA's most-celebrated medical facility is a great, morbid gag that sets the film's tone. Like SESSION 9, it makes psychiatric hospitals scary.

THE THING remains the best version of the four adaptations and a superior John Carpenter masterpiece of paranoia that somehow still confuses audiences (seriously folks, if you're arguing over who is a Thing at the end, you missed the point of the movie). Rob Bottin's effects still sing out nastily.
