I see the MacDonald monument is now “unboxed” at Queen’s Park and under armed guard. Where are the 🇨🇦 conservative voices crying abt the~ $1m/pa cost to taxpayers to guard a statue 24/7/365 forever?? It’s as if $ doesn’t matter when it’s abt celebrating their fav genocidaire.

It's a basic democratic right for a community, institution (or in this case congregation) to be able to choose to shape and reshape its memory culture—rather than being forced to keep every last memorial to a coloniser or enslaver #EveryMonumentWillFall

Are Florida’s Confederate statues & place names coming back? Trump orders restoration of monuments. Unclear how much power Secretary of the Interior can exert at local level, but it will surely inspire or scare officials into compliance. #ReConfederatization www.jacksonville.com/story/news/p...
Are Florida’s Confederate statues coming back? Trump orders restoration of monuments
President Trump has ordered monuments removed or changed for "ideological" reasons to be restored. How will this affect Florida's Confederate statues?

It’s policy like this recent EO from the US that makes it so important to keep doing tours like “Monumental” that talk abt how artists respond to, and create new sites of memory.

Glad to have the chance to share this with students at @uoft.bsky.social this week

Great news here! Really important that we start to see more Anishinaabemowin in the Toronto street grid! An important step in reclaiming the Land relations the current street grid obscures.
This is #TorontoDanforth

Old Cherry St was recently renamed Ookwemin St

"On the heels of Villiers Island being renamed Ookwemin Minising, which roughly translates to "place of the black cherry trees" in the Anishinaabemowin (Ojibwe) language"

Funny how this petition to rename Wayne Gretzky Drive that's doing the numbers has no complaints about "cost," "inconvenience," or "erasing history" associated with it. It's almost as if those "concerns" were maybe just something else? 🤔

February 27th of #BlackHistoryMonth in #TorontoDanforth Why change the name of Dundas St?

Whatever Dundas’ motivations may have been, the consequences of delaying the abolition of the slave trade are clear.

Flag Day today in 🇨🇦 seems a good time to remind everyone that Tories hated the maple leaf so much that we basically had to invent provincial flags so they could keep licking imperial boots.

Important rebuttal by @lanrickbennett.bsky.social to @mikepmoffatt.bsky.social incorrect sug that Sec 37 $$$ were used inappropriately to pay for naming Sankofa Square. 🧵
I got a series of questions yesterday regarding this article from housing advocates and those within Toronto's Confronting Anti-Black Racism Unit. I thought it would be good to give some additional context to what was presented and why it actual matters to push back. medium.com/@lanrickbenn...
