I may have stirred up a bit of internet nonsense by speculating that they recast Tennant as a Time Lord Austin Powers to try and hide the fact that there's somewhat less clear blue water between 10 and 11 than fans - and this very episode - like to pretend.

I've said it before, but at the BFI animated Faceless Ones screening, I was struck by Anneke Wills referencing The Smugglers in almost every Q&A answer. She doesn't seem inherently nostalgic about the show, so maybe they just found a really good pub, but it did sharpen my hope to see it someday.
