In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,

The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

(You’ll notice that the rows in the Menin Gate are quite well integrated.)

For all those lexiters still crooning over the opportunities of Brexit, here (h/t @jim-cornelius.bsky.social) is an extract from Tony Benn’s 1965 diary: “The real choice is, do we go with Europe or do we become an American satellite?” 50 years later, the same question faces us.

That reminds me of a 2019 sign from one of the London marches. Was that sentiment smothered by the 2019 general election and covid or is it waiting to be tapped again?

Perhaps, as well as low mortgage rates, the cumulative pressure of low house building rates maintained by the Thatcherite ban on local authorities building council houses?

Just, y’know, for laughs.
When he has the composure of Michelle Agyemang, I might come back to waste some time on this.

I am struck by the absence of images of the Opposition Front Bench when they drew attention to Rachel Reeves’s upset. They showed us who they are. Far more embarrassing than any tears.

Perhaps it wasn’t anything to do with the sport and the rise of Reform UK is just part of the same story. Brexit and Covid and Ukraine have only exacerbated the aftermath of the GFC:

This opens the way for some Labour members to join Reform. That’s one of the things Farage should be working on now, defectors from Labour.

🤔 maybe the donors didn’t invest enough in those elections, whereas indiscriminately distributing a glossy A5 card days after the local elections in England outside outside elections isn’t cheap (but won’t count towards election expenditure):

It costs a lot of money to blanket mail whole areas indiscriminately with shiny A5 cards like this, a lot:

I guess you’ll have to take that up with the Electoral Reform Society. (You could skip the first 12 pages of my paper.)

@stephenkb.bsky.social here’s a utopian alternative in a skimmable 24 pages (skip to p 13 if really bored): www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/edvlv...
