What do you call someone who promotes a policy that is damaging to your country?
Headline from a serious and long working paper on the economic impact of Brexit. Possible that this has been feeding into OBR and HMT discussions?

Well worth a listen both for Jonathan's skewering of Piper but also Nolan's skewering afterwards. Piper was clearly out of his depth.
"You, like Nigel Farage, are simply lying about what the ONS says."

I somewhat lost my patience with Reform Councillor Bill Piper here.. (from about 1h 27 min in)

National populism keeps advancing. Each time its critics express shock - then carry on as before.

Why does opposition keep failing?🧵

Fewer than 2% of UK TV adverts feature only Black or only Asian people in the cast; the overwhelming majority of ads with ethnic minority presence have mixed or cross ethnicity groups.

Am I the only one uneasy about our representatives being chosen by 25% of the electorate from a panel of people preselected by small, unrepresentative, ideologically motivated groups of party members?
Caerphilly, Senedd constituency by-election result:

PC: 47.4% (+19.0)
REF: 36.0% (+34.2)
LAB: 11.0% (-34.9)
CON: 2.0% (-15.3)
GRN: 1.5% (+1.5)
LDEM: 1.5% (-1.2)
GWL: 0.3% (+0.3)
UKIP: 0.2% (+0.2)

Plaid Cymru GAIN from Labour.

“We can’t be trusted. Vote for us.”
The current line taken by some Conservatives is "We will rip up ILR, something no govt has ever done before, but citizenship is different". Not reassuring. Precedents matter. "We don't abide by rules previously agreed" is the precedent.Once that's set, reassurances on other rules carry little weight

The effect of Brexit is not just 'long-lasting'. It is never ending.

Until Brexit is reversed, UK remains at a disadvantage to all its neighbours, economically, geopolitically and in terms of individual opportunities.

A final note. This country has amazing people in the private sector, in universities, in charities, in schools and hospitals and the police, in the civil service. And frankly, the lack of clarity, the lack of vision, the lack of basic decency from many of our politicians is letting us all down.
