the fact that with @bsky.app / @atproto.com you don’t need to rely on your current PDS’ cooperating or continuing to exist in order to move to another PDS is a HUGE advantage over Mastodon. If anything, that makes Bluesky more decentralized, Mastodon instances have full control over your data.

just like bluesky, I can switch my email service to outlook and move my custom domain email to there, and my email address would still be andrew@pizzaworld.com but with a dif provider storing my stuff.

it works a lot like email, believe or not. If i own a business called PizzaWorld, i sign up for a gmail business account and my email is andrew@pizzaworld.com, then:

- andrew@pizza.world is my “handle” that uses a custom domain
- Gmail is analogous to the “PDS” storing my data, a la bsky.social
