“Productivity” is about resources in and outcomes realized. If the massive cost of creating these tools isn’t translating to increased economic activity for those adopting them, we need to figure out why.

That’s where measuring “Gen AI productivity” needs to go to prove value. We don’t measure Eng productivity with PRs or lines written. GenAI is *wildly* “productive” on those fronts, but we should be talking about the outcomes it can enable in practice.

That is productivity if your job is to produce emails and docs, but isn’t your job to produce other things, which emails and docs are part of creating? Even consultants aren’t *really* hired for the decks they make. It’s what’s in the decks and what you do after.
