Saint of Bright Doors might seem like a stretch, but if you like WWW, you'll probably like a vast world governed by gods and politics far outside our character's sphere of influence that our character nevertheless ends up challenging. It's also one of the best books published in the last decade.

Witch Hat Atelier is a manga series that might just be my favourite manga since Fullmetal Alchemist. The way it interrogates its magic systems in its worldbuilding feels very much in line with Suvi and the wizards in WWW. Also, the art is just incredibly gorgeous.

WWW is obviously heavily Ghibli-inspired and Howl's Moving Castle fits that perfectly (Hayao Miyazaki agrees). It's also the perfect book. Whimsical, weird, and deeply lovable. If you've only seen the movie, you should read the book.

If you like @worldsbeyondnumber.bsky.social's The Wizard, The Witch, and the Wild One, you should read Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones, Witch Hat Atelier by Kamome Shirahama, and The Saint of Bright Doors by @vajra.me

Look, it's my favourite TTRPG campaign ever, I couldn't pick just one!

If you like: D20 A Court of Fey and Flowers, you should read The River Has Roots by @amalelmohtar.com and Spinning Silver by @naominovik.bsky.social

Fey bargains, magical romance, stepping through worlds, and beautiful language. Highly recommend both of these books if you enjoy faerie.

If you like: Critical Role Campaign 2, you should read the Liveship Traders trilogy by @robinhobb.bsky.social

Pirates! Seafaring! Characters with little power forging their way and making big changes to a world embroiled in war and ancient archaeological discoveries!

If you like: D20 Burrow's End, you should read The Annual Migration of Clouds by @premeemohamed.com

Yes Burrow's End is based on Watership Down and YES READ THAT, but to look further: AMOC is a quiet post-apocalyptic survival story in a world broken by pandemic & climate collapse, which feels right

If you like: Dimension 20 Unsleeping City, you should read The City We Became by @nkjemisin.bsky.social

You like magical New York? A group of New Yorkers from across the boroughs teaming up to save the city from capitalism & gentrification embodied in eldritch rot unseen by normal people? READ THIS

If you like: Critical Role Campaign 4, you should read The Craft Sequence by @maxgladstone.bsky.social

A sprawling, detailed world in the aftermath of a war with the gods, diverse characters whose stories separate and intertwine through both action & intrigue. Yes, I'm describing both series.

Submit your eligible work! I love that Schrödinger's Award period when a possible future world exists in which I won something.

This year I do not have the luxury of that fantasy. But hey, at least I'm in excellent company!

Can't stand that adobe's shoving AI in my face at all times, but darkly amused that it offers to somehow summarize 6 pages of working drawings whenever I open up a set of plans.

That's...that's not how any of this works.

Cracked open the copy of the Year's Best Canadian F&SF Vol. 3 I just picked up at Can*Con, only to discover my little cat necromancy story got an honourable mention! 🙀

Big thanks for the shout-out @ourmankoto.bsky.social!! Hugely appreciate the work you do putting these anthologies together.

Huge shout-outs to fellow panelists @loukoren.bsky.social and @rebecca-b.bsky.social for a great panel on (sustainably) running a magazine.

Also to @moniqueac.bsky.social and @ympang.bsky.social for such a fun talk about submitting short fiction. Could've talked with you all for hours!

It's three billion degrees outside and I am very smart so I decided to heat up the oven as high as it would go to make dinner tonight.
