Security is impossible. Resiliency is essential.

What about the inevitable recession/ depression? Surely that will dampen the US consumer ability to spend (and pay these new tariffs?) Right now in my industry American projects are all paused, but Canada and the EU remain fine.

So is Canada. Our new PM is a central banker. He's got ideas.

Stagflation is coming.

Your dollar will collapse as there aren't many buyers. Especially when the world doesn't want to buy anything from the US anymore. And it is time to drop the US dollar as the world reserve currency.

I had a 1.2 million pipeline for my small business earlier this year... now it is just 600K (due to all the economic chaos). Promises are worth the paper they are written on. Contracts matter. I have now pivoted to focusing only on the EU and things are going better! Trump's announcements are silly.

Money represents time. For those of us who are a little older, and thinking of retirement - we don't have a lot of time to start again. A lifetime of work evaporated because the US wants to crash the economy to refinance debt at a better price. Debt accumulated through economic profligacy.

Your military invaded Iraq.

Except Canadians are for the most part very well educated. And we are about to elect a centrist with a PH.D in economics from Oxford. We don't elect American style leadership.

Sorry Vivaldi is the browser. And then I use Startpage as the search engine.
March 30, 2025 at 8:11 AM
I switched to Vivaldi. The browser is good, and they are fighting for an ethical internet. Based in Norway.

Disagree. I think all Americans should be embarrassed and should be fighting harder. They are sending innocent men to El Salvador to be locked up in tortuous conditions. Free speech is under attack. Acting like oh well I didn't vote for him is an excuse. Only 32% of Germans voted Nazi.

We don't care. Your responsibility towards your democracy isn't just once every 4 years Canadians are fighting for our country. We don't see the same thing from Americans This after a lifetime of hearing how exceptional you are.
March 29, 2025 at 9:09 PM
The US is quite different than other Western democracies right now. Mostly because it is no longer a fuctioning democracy.
March 22, 2025 at 8:34 PM
I wish you the best of luck of course. But while you fight in the courts, judges are going to be impeached and their orders ignored. And all your institutions that matter are already led by loyalists. Authoritarianism is becoming entrenched.
March 19, 2025 at 9:20 PM
It is almost nothing compared to the assault on your democracy. People should flood the streets and shut down the nation until the US stops deporting and firing people without due process, threatening your allies, spouting Russian rhetoric, and railing against judges and a free press.
March 19, 2025 at 5:56 PM
Success also due to the incredible advantage of holding the world's reserve currency that allows you to borrow to achieve growth and consume above what other nations can without triggering hyperinflation.
March 19, 2025 at 5:51 PM
Mostly we in Europe are dumbfounded by how complacent Americans are, for people who proclaimed how free and exceptional they were for generations.
March 19, 2025 at 2:12 PM
Millions? When the AfD were gaining momentum there were protests of 100s of thousands of people all over Germany for months and months. I do not see those sorts of mass protests.
March 19, 2025 at 2:09 PM
As a Canadian who lived in the US for a few years when younger, I grew up hearing about American exceptionalism and freedom. But I don't see millions taking to the streets as people are dragged to extra-judicial gulags without due process. I live in Europe now - we take to the streets for much less.

This isn't DEI. There weren't DEI programs then. People of minority races or other countries had to fight infinitely harder to be part of society and make these sorts of contributions. This is racism - why isn't the media brave enough to report it properly?

As a Canadian who moved to The Netherlands ...can confirm that Efteling is 🔥.

Plus you are buying things like aluminum, which you use to make planes, military equipment and so on. And things like potash, which you need to fertilize your fields (90% of which comes from Canada). You make money from your Canadian imports.
