I see Americans online saying they will pretend to be Canadian when travelling internationally. Canadians fought alongside you when you were attacked. And now when your leaders threaten us, almost none of you have spoken up. So don't use us to hide your shame. Be your exceptional American selves.

For all that there are very real issues in the western world right now - the EU is a marvel. 27 countries of diverse languages and cultures coming together in unity to allow the free movement of people and goods, creating prosperity and peace for millions.

There is resilience in unity.

We're in an age of massive geopolitical, climatic and technological change. Change is sometimes scary. We want to feel secure - but we realize that security is a myth. However, we can improve our resiliency, our ability to adapt to adverse situations.
