Yes, they live in a real and necessary fear. Our school year starts in six hours. I pray for their safety, food security, and basic health. It is a mangled American Dream.

As an American school teacher, this sounds like the next strategy they will suggest as a safety protocol. I started teaching the year of the Columbine massacre, and we have 26 years of futile drills and hiding strategies that only work if you and your kids are locked in your classroom.

I started teaching during the 1998-1999 school year-the year of Columbine. Over 27 years, I’ve done more professional development on school safety than any other topic. I was also a youth pastor. Without action, thoughts and prayers are blasphemous. Thanks for your words.

I started teaching during the 1998-1999 school year. April of 1999 was the Columbine massacre. I have spent more hours in professional development on the topic of school safety than on any other topic in my entire career. Nothing is working. In 27 years, there is only one strategy we haven’t tried…
