Suburbs and rural areas tend to be so sparse, yet entitled to all the same amenities, that it's literally impossible to bring in enough taxable income per acre to pay for their basic infrastructure, let alone replace it every 20 years.

Yup. The exact same thing is true at the greater municipal level. Urban centers subsidize financially insoluble suburbs. Suburbs that were only bankrolled in the first place because of New growth incentive programs.

I'm still not entirely certain it was the correct move. I've been doing a lot more accidental doom scrolling in the last couple weeks...

To be fair, I stopped subjecting myself to the horrors of Twitter and Facebook a long time ago, made a commitment to tightly control my relationship with social media and became somewhat of a neoluddist, and then begrudgingly broke that commitment to give Blue sky a try.
