There's an unofficial UK wind generation record of >23GW in the history data. Beating the record of 3 weeks ago. Outlook for low-carbon generation remains solid, albeit that nuclear is down again.

Unusual forecast dynamics. I was expecting a surplus of renewable energy Sun-Mon, but demand forecast was low by around 8GW! The UK became an exporter, which is quite rare and as a result of both, UK wholesale prices for Sun-Mon were slightly higher than Sat-Sun despite higher low-CO2e generation...

Please tell me there is a very special punishment reserved for drivers who park their car, which has tailpipes, *sideways* across an EV charging space?

Nuclear generation recovered a little this week. Nov 21st was the first significantly supply-constrained (high wholesale price) day of the winter so far - cold temp and few imports available. Next week there will be a similarly low-renewables day, but temperatures should be warmer and prices lower.

A reasonable week has just passed for UK low-carbon generation. Torness2 has converted to a "planned" refuelling outage so half the UK's nuclear generation remains offline but it's been fairly windy, with more similar weather to come. Imports have been more volatile than I would expect...

Wind generation has dropped away in the last couple of days, as forecast. The forecast for next week has improved though. It would be nice if nuclear generation were a bit more stable, but Torness2 has unplanned outage in addition to the 3 planned. That's a problem with such an old nuclear fleet...

The last week has been as good as expected for UK low-carbon generation and it will continue for a few days yet, with no major lull on the horizon, just a gradual waning - plenty of time for that to change though. Nuclear stabilised just below 4GW, with both Hartlepool and one Heysham reactors out.

UK low-carbon energy was in short supply as expected this week, with a depressing amount of purple gas and brown woodchip generation in the history. Even imports were in short supply at high cost. Nuclear generation continued its slow recovery. A big reversal will take place starting tomorrow...

Storm Amy was spectacular for UK low-carbon energy, driving near net-zero for two days 4th and 5th October. We're now in an autumnal lull, with nuclear generation slowly recovering (hopefully to remain maintenance-free for the winter) and wind generation forecast to increase again from 18th.
October 12, 2025 at 11:21 AM
UK nuclear generation remains at historic lows - hopefully it will be strong for winter this year, with all the maintenance completed now. The wind lull of last week was cushioned by strong imports. It will go lower, but back to strong wind generation by the middle of next week.

Nearing the end of an impressive couple of weeks for UK low-carbon energy - very little gas but also very low nuclear generation! Interesting to see how imports have been able to fill the gaps. Ireland didn't need UK exports at the windiest times...

Some good times for UK low-carbon energy! Nuclear is still languishing but the autumn wind has arrived and is powering some very low CO2e/kWh and minimal gas power. We had an internet outage on 4th Sept so there is a data history flatline.

Quick update - a really good couple of low-carbon energy days coming up. I might actually hold my big charging until Sunday when the forecast is for a longer lower period despite less solar...

I loved seeing condensation on the **outside** of our new triple-glazed windows this morning. It's the perfect sign they're working already, keeping heat inside so effectively, that the outer pane gets cold. Fitter is back next week to finish the job... yeah we haven't cleaned up yet! #LowEnergy

We had a big lull in UK low-carbon generation - look at the historic imports. Nuclear dropped to 2.6GW, the lowest since Nov 24. Autumn seems to have arrived in the form of wind generation though, and we should see some really low wholesale prices on 31st all through the day.

I was away and unable to post for storm Floris, but our EV is on charge today and will be again tomorrow, taking advantage of more high-wind and solar low-carbon energy across the UK before the next forecast drought. Nuclear energy is in the doldrums again.

I just got this year's Solar Together estimate. Prices for a system with 445Wp panels have dropped 35% in a year! On one level this is great, but on another level it's simply a reason to wait. Last year the payback looked like 2034, this year it suggests 2032. Will spending next year pay back 2031?

UK low-carbon energy is still in a bit of a lull. Nuclear is recovering towards its potential 4.8GW, solar is strongish but the summer wind is light. Next weekend might be better, but for this weekend Sunday should be the best of a weaker bunch of days than we've grown used to.
July 18, 2025 at 9:11 PM
On the face of it, a quiet week for UK low-carbon generation. Little wind, but great solar into late afternoons. Mon & Tue week should have a bit higher wind generation, but then falling back into a lull again. Nuclear is lower than peak - Hartlepool2 remains in unplanned outage. Torness2 due back.
July 12, 2025 at 2:40 PM
UK low-carbon energy reliable stalwart is still solar - we just need more capacity! Nuclear had another unscheduled dip from 29th but has recovered. Wind comes and goes, currently in a bit of a lull but recovering for Fri/Sat. Presumably lowest wholesale prices on Saturday if you can wait...

Don't waste your time as I did, on a weak article from the BBC News site about a Taplow bridge collapse, there is a much better timeline that answers loads of questions about how it happened... from Dorney parish council, who expected it! dorneyparishcouncil.gov.uk/ashford-lane...

UK low-carbon generation was great over the weekend past, with negative daytime wholesale prices due to wind and solar. The forecast suggests the same for Friday and Saturday - there should be lowest prices on Saturday due to lower demand.

@octopus.energy I've not had a bill this month - suspect the billing system is missing my data from 9th-12th June? Octopus app has it, but that probably is via the mini so the national database might need a nudge? It's bizarre to me that no automatic system seems to alert when this happens...

Unplanned nuclear shutdowns the UK low-carbon energy story of the week. First Hartlepool2 (590MW) had a generator transformer fault, then SizewellB (1 reactor, 2 turbines, 1300MW!) Shut down during motor generator set switching. Solar has been good, wind energy fickle. Daytime surplus this weekend.
