Stargate? I'm not convinced this is what the Blood Incantation song was about...

"This is unconstitutional," I scream as the facial recognition equipped robot dogs drag me to my cell.

"This goes against everything America stands for!" I shout, as the algorithmic sentencing machine condemns me to death.

"This is not who we are!" I remind the firing squad of child soldiers

Occasionally one is lucky enough to stumble upon a vestige of 'the old internet', abandoned sites that are still repositories of longform writing on everything from abandoned Soviet amusement parks to interactive fiction about the the outbreak of yellow fever. I'm gonna dig here awhile.

"DOOM: The Gallery Experience was created as an art piece designed to parody the wonderfully pretentious world of gallery openings.
In this experience, you will be able to walk around and appreciate some fine art while sipping some wine and enjoying the complimentary hors d’oeuvres".

BBC archive looks at the aftermath of what was perhaps the most seminal moment of 80's broadcasting, whilst also outlining that apparently you had to be at least 70 years old to appear on television in Thatcher's Britain (or at least dress like you were)

You know how I talked about this being a year to 'just walk aimlessly whilst listening to weird music'?

This album is two tracks of approximately 28 minutes each.
There and back again.

You might think you know where its going when it starts, but I promise you that you don't.

Today I learned the word 'Ephemerides', which are Galileo's timetables charting the eclipses of the Jovian moons for means of calculating longitude.

Such a good word.

Don't do what I did and let Combat Commander languish on your shelf for years. This one is a straight up banger, and way more playable /straightforward than it may first appear.

Great start to gaming in 2025.

Today's listening. This act has been an incredible find.
Based in the Netherlands, singing about South American history and folklore, whilst sounding like 1st wave Greek BM (Thy Mighty Contract et al).
Essential!

I have a lot of resolutions/ambitions for 2025, some big, some small.
One of them is definitely to devote more time to just aimlessly walking whilst listening to weird music as the wind tousles my hair dramatically.

I know Blood Incantation won many plaudits this year for their 'Morbid Angel meets Gilmour's Pink Floyd' take on heavy psychedelia but for me, this is a far more interesting attempt at taking your brain to an absolute elsewhere (a Moroccan bazaar housed inside a gravitron).

Current reading. Exceptionally timely and skilfully told, Merchant contrasts the era of The Industrial Revolution and Luddite rebellion with the contemporary gig economy and big tech as 'disruptor'.

Unputdownable, essential reading. I also recommend his substack of the same name.

Hammers up!

My crusty Death Thrash band Blood Trails just launched our new EP. Filthy riffs for 'interesting times'. We'd be chuffed if you'd check it out.

If The Barracks Emperors has taught me anything it's that these dudes had a shorter life-span then even the average telephone pole gig flyer.
