Don’t be mistaken, this is 💯 the world Sam Altman and his kind want. Maybe they don’t achieve it, but let’s not be blind to their aspirations.

I’m happy to declare my own bias here! It may sound like fiction, but a world where we live forever with no meaningful work for half or better of the humans on this planet doesn’t seem like a very inspiring world to live in.

Which is kind of why I hope there’s no real break-through gen AI product and LLMs remain an assistant for creatives and programmers.

Sam Altman, for example, is very clear that he wants AI to put people out of work — listen for all the “do more with less” talk — and then create a way for him to live forever. Which living forever is fine if you own the tool doing all the work and reaping all the financial reward.

The thing I worry about more than any technical ramifications is the “big tech” nature of LLMs. Feels very much like the “social web” again, where a few billionaires control the tools and reap outsized benefit.
