Happy to announce a new publication with @yulengzeng.bsky.social in the Journal of Peace Research. We show that sanction shocks lead to a short-term increase in *relative* military spending in the target states. The paper is available open access at: journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10....

I've seen many issues linked to trade agreements, but this seems a first... It should be clear by now that one cannot seriously negotiate with the current US administration.
Anybody tell him that the US could also try a different approach, i.e., put maximum pressure on Russia so it has an incentive to negotiate seriously?
Everyone with a bit of an understanding of negotiations understood that the approach by the current US admin was not going to work
