Interestingly, the DHS report notes that about 79% of the undocumented people in the U.S. entered the country before 2010. Which means they've been living peacefully, and constructively, in the U.S. for at least 15 years.

On one hand, it's preposterous to think that a volunteer survey of 3.5 million people, sent by mail, would give you good data on a nation of 340 million. On the other hand, it could mean that the number of foreign-born people is greatly under-reported.

Looking for evidence of the actual number I found a DHS report that says their 2022 estimate of undocumented immigrants was 10.9 million. Their method is to take the Census's yearly estimate of foreign-born people and subtract the DHS enforcement numbers.
