The importance of Wahman is intimated by the fact that he is the first Amahraspand in rank, after Hōrmazd. In the Mazdean calendar, the second day of the month is ruled by Wahman, which concurs with his rank as Amahraspand.

The Mazdean cosmological scheme is consistent with this, for it tells us that Hōrmazd appointed four of the fixed stars as spahbadān ('army generals') of the four cardinal directions. The four spahbadān are: Tištar, Wanand, Sadwēs, and Haftōrang.

The first light, or more precisely, the light that follows the Light of Lights, is of the longitudinal order, and Sohrawardī likens it to Wahman. The higher emanations of the longitudinal order, in turn, produce the fixed stars.

In his Occulta De Philosophia, the 16th century German occultist, Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa, outlines a list of fifteen fixed stars to which he refers as the (pl.) "Behenii" or (sing.) "Behenius" stars.
