Cliche answer, but Hollow Knight was made in a lab for me specifically, the cute/creepy character designs, the themes, setting, difficulty, the feel. It was also the first game I played after college and had the time to really relax and appreciate it.

The men in this game are so spectacularly boring. I thought they were solving that problem at the end of Act 1 but then it got worse lol

Oh I know, my point was more that Collective Shout probably isn't the main factor, VISA/Mastercard are reading the room and feeling emboldened by changing policies and current government makeup, so they feel better about getting more puritanical and ignoring customer feedback.

I think VISA/Mastercard might have looked at that UK age verification law, KOSA being reintroduced in the US, and other internet "safety" policies and are trying to get ahead of the curve. Collective Shout might just be taking credit or a small factor in that decision
